PLN 2: APPS for LEARNING
I currently only have math help apps on my phone because that is the subject
that I mostly have trouble with. There are more apps that I would like to get
but just have not had the time to download them.
PLN 3: HELPFUL EDUCATIONAL APPS:
1. Critical Thinking and Problem Solving.
See Saw: The Learning Journal: is a digital portfolio that students can electronically share information with their teachers and other students.
Educreations: this is an iPad workhorse that explains math problems in "math talk" that students can understand.
-----
2. Developing Digital Literacies.
Ideo.com: this is an app that helps young learners learn how to read and write at an early age.
Story Kit: this is an app where children can go to create and read different types of stories.
-----
3. Communication and Collaboration.
Alexicom AAC Speech Buddy: Alexicom AAC lets you use your Android phone or tablet as an augmentative communication device. They offer over 1,200 pre-made pages and over 7,000 images in their public libraries.
iConverse: iConverse is an educational tool designed for young children, autistic individuals, and individuals with other communicative disabilities, and also toddler-aged children who have yet to master language. iConverse is an Augmentative Alternative Communication (AAC) application for the iPhone and iPod Touch that replaces bulky and expensive communication devices used in the past. iConverse comes with only 6 preloaded image buttons so you will need to do some button making work before you can use it. It also does not come with a scheduler to help with transitions.
-----
4. Creativity.
Art Class With Dr. Panda: children can get ideas from this app for off screen art projects.
Draw and Tell by Duck Duck Goose: this app encourages story telling. Kids choose from a variety of different backgrounds, colors, characters, objects, and even stencils to create their drawings. Once they are ready, they can record a story or whatever they want while moving around the characters. There are also many coloring templates for those who just want to color.
-----
5. Digital Citizenship.
WebSafety: WebSafety is available for both iPhone and iPad as well as Android devices. Parents can monitor potentially harmful content or interactions occurring on their child’s mobile device using this app. You can monitor all incoming information through a secure WebSafety account.
Trace My Shadow: Trace My Shadow is a tool that allows you to get a glimpse into the digital traces you’re leaving and from what devices. Select the device and services that you use and see how many digital footprints you leave and what you can do take control of them.
