PLN 4: DESIGN A LESSON USING TECHNOLOGY
Grade: 2nd
Standard: 2.17: Locate major cities, bodies of water, mountain ranges, and rivers in the United States
Question: Where in the United States can we find the following: major cities, bodies of water, mountain ranges, and rivers?
Supplies: internet access, paper pencil, white board
Instructions:
Ask the students if they can describe different cities, bodies of water, mountain ranges, and rivers, located here in the United States. (you may need to help students with descriptions) (10-15 minutes)
Next, show different pictures of "the list" and ask the students which category do the pictures belong to (10 minutes)
Then have a student pass out a sheet of paper. Separate the students into 4 groups and assign (speaker, writer, and 2 researchers) tell the students that they will be researching information on their assigned topic on their ipads/laptops/classroom computers. Students must find at least 5 facts about their assigned topic and the writer will write it down what the group comes up with. Remind the students that they will be sharing their research with the class. (15 minutes)
Students will then share their research findings and the other students will be writing down their "notes" in their notebook for future reference. (20 minutes)
